Metropolitan Dimitry of Rostov (in the world Daniel Savich Tuptalo; 1651 - 1709) - Russian church leader, Bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church; spiritual writer, preacher. In 1757, the glorified among the saints of the Russian Orthodox Church; the memory of September 21 (Julian calendar) and on the day of the Council Siberian Saints (June 10). Dimitry of Rostov became famous as a fruitful church author - compiler of collections of the lives of saints (most famously, in four books - "Lives of the Saints"). Work on the lives of the saints was launched May 6 1684 and lasted for 20 years.
