Catalyst Black is a multiplayer shooter game developed by Super Evil Megacorp. The game just reminds me of another game League of Legends after first entering the battlefield, but offers some fresh features and many intriguing game modes. So what's Catalyst Black? Is it worth playing? Now let's dive deep into this shooter game and find out.

What's Catalyst Black?

Catalyst Black is a team-based multiplayer shooter game where gamers need to shoot massive opponents and complete different tasks to win the game. Just like League of Legends, the game adopts a top-down battle view and offers a drop-in/drop-out gameplay - so gamers can join a match easily and drop out of a match if they like to without ruining the game.

As a new game just released three months ago, Catalyst Black features a newbie-friendly tutorial and "How to play" guide to let beginners know quickly about how this game works. The game's objective varies depending on the game modes you play. Core Rush Mode, for example, is to shoot waves of enemies and occupy as many cores as possible to score points. Two teams of 10+ players battle each other on virtual maps. Even you get killed by rival players you can respawn and return to the battlefield after a few seconds.

Gamers are equipped with a primary weapon and a second weapon. There are a variety of weapons, such as sniper rifles, rocket launchers, mortars, etc. Each weapon is upgradable and has unique health states, move speed, damage dealt, and more. In order to cause more damage to your rival team, you need to unlock new weapons and use dust, quint, or other precious items to upgrade your weapons to destroy your opponents.

The gameplay also combines player shooting and neutral monsters. Gamers are allowed to use the "Mask" to transform into a deadly monster to battle against enemies. However, you have to wait a few minutes for the cooldown to use this ability again. Cooperate with your teammates to win the game and gain rewards and in-game currency to upgrade your gears and customize your characters. There are 3 main game modes with different missions: Core Rush mode, Capture the Flag mode, and Flag Hunter mode. Now let"s take a closer look at these game modes.

Core rush mode

The goal of the Core Rush mode is to take down the opponents and capture their cores to score points. In order to win, you must cooperate with your teammates and be the first team to reach 15 points.

Capture the flag mode

Capture the flag mode is a bit different than the previous game mode and requires gamers to capture the enemy flags and bring them back to your team base to score points. The first team capture 5 flags win the game. There is a minimap on the left-top side of the screen, you can watch the flag holder and destroy them.

Flag Hunter mode

Flag Hunter mode is a kind of a variation of the Capture the Flag mode. Gamers need to defeat their opponents to gain flags. The team that holds 10 flags for 75 seconds is the winner!

In-app purchases

It's free to download Catalyst Black on both Google Play and Appstore. The game also contains in-game purchases to allow gamers to buy currency like quint and marks. These in-game currencies can be used to unlock new gears, abilities, trinkets, and more. You can complete quests, join a match, or use real money to get these precious items and use these currencies to enhance your gaming experience.

Catalyst Black offers graphic options allowing gamers to balance performance with graphics quality. I have played this game for about two days and encountered some lag issues, connectivity problems, and crushes which still take some time for devs to work on.
